Hello, BHW was referred to me from my man at San Tan Tactical for my AR build. Want to do a 14.5", mid-length to play with at the range, possibly some 2/3 gun and instruct my boys for proper etiquette/safety. Trying to decide on a profile and whether I should upgrade to the shot peened treatment. Forum has been a wealth of knowledge, keep up the great work!

welcome Manny. My two BHW barrels are shot peened black, cause they'll go hunting & I don't want a flash/glare. For your stated purpose, training & range only, a natural finish would look cool.. imo.. and they are stainless..

Welcome to the board Momo. Personally the stainless machine finish is very attractive, the polished is crow bait and is gorgeous but I must admit that shot peened finish is a very nice understated surface.
I would go standard weight for your needs . You'll have to pin the brake on to get to 16" and personally I prefer not doing that on my guns. All you save is maybe 2" compared to a 16" threaded plus the added expense. My 3Gun barrels are all 18" and 20" as I prefer a bit more weight out front. All personal preference.
I'm in Phoenix so if you need any assistance I'm on;y a PM and a phone call away.

Morning guys, Yeah, going with a 16" crossed my mind but after checking out a 14.5" build Dennis did, I really liked the look of a 14" handguard with the 14.5" barrel. He attached the Lantac Dragon to get it past 16", which looked sharp. The black machine finish is probably the way I'll go, have you heard/seen if they are more prone to tarnishing? Much thanks! Welcome to the board. The stainless machine finish looks good and looks even better in contrast with a black hand gard over it, or for that matter OD or tan or really bout any color you'd like. Cerakote is Not a bad choice ether IMO, and have lots of choices there.
I like a 14.5 myself and now you don't really gain all that much in shortness but it is noticeable both in feel and looks. You do have to have it pinned or get a sbr for it and both goin to cost ya more...one much more then other ha. The biggest down fall to being pinned however is that you can't really change your comp/flash hider if want to. So better make sure you like what have put on there because it not an easy swap like with a 16" or longer barrel. I have a 14.5 in a light profile but I'd agree that you'd probably be most happy with a standard profile

But nothing to say bad about a light I really like mine. But there not a lot of difference and the rail you chose has more to do with the weight then the barrel imp. Also just to note the 14.5 light barrel I have is not a BHW

Manny The black shot peened is a super tough finish. It won't "tarnish-rust" any more than anything else. I've got no evidence that the things ever change their looks. Keep s posted as you go along and we love pictures. Look at the RTS barrels they might have something right down your alley. Greg

Welcome momo
I have to say if you like the looks of the 14.5" then go for it. I have own 2 in the past that I have pined and welded myself. If you change your mind about what brake or flash hider you have used its really not that hard to change out, however
the one you take off will most likely be destroyed.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
