I'll be ordering a 16" 1-8 twist .264LBC on Monday. It will be for hunting only, and with commercial loads. Who here hunts with a 16" barrel? What is the performance on game with it? What has been your farthest shot? Any input on the 16" vs other lengths? Just curious

Deer at 400 will be freezer meat. Elk would be a bit closer if that's the game. Greg

Greg Identical to the Grendel, which is likewise very similar in ballistics to the 6.5 Swede (aka 6.5x55 Mauser), which is a "go-to" all over Europe for anything up to and including Moose, which they call Elk. I don't know how much velocity you'll sacrifice by using a 16" barrel, though. The only cartridge I have hunted with in a 16" barrel was a .308Win, only sacrificing a hair over 50 fps to cut down to that barrel length.

I think the Swede shots bigger bullets but in the 16" gun you'll loose about 25-20 FPS/inch over the longer tube. The good thing is part of that is made up by the faster speeds of the BHW rifling.
