You have a front scope base mounted up? The nut won't screw on the threads?

The scope mount is still on and the nut will only go a little bit will try to take the mount off and see what happens ordered a new nut but they aren't back from blacking yet so was gonna use the old one guess i will have to see what happens.. don't know if i want to file the threads and see what happens waited this long and wanting to get to the range and try it out but need to figure this out first..

I was once told to always use a new barrel nut when changing barrels. That is what I did when I rebarreled a Stevens 200 long action years ago. Plus the after market barrel nuts tend to be more square if you buy one from some of those sites that sell match grade savage parts

Gonna wait for the new nut but still trying to figure out why it only screws so far in to the receiver.. Its well lubed up with anti seize so still dont know but the scope mount be a problem will try to take it off and try that.. Just checked and no screws protruding into the screw area on the action and it doesn't make to the area where the first screw is..

Perhaps the shank is in maximum spec and your action threads on are the tight minimum side. You might measure both and see if they are different.

Greg Thanks for the help again and could you maybe explain what NAX is and to add this I couldn't sleep in this morning as I was thinking about this and some research I had done, so I went out and cleaned everything up and noticed that the threads where it had gone into the action were nice and shiny.. and the s cope mount screws do not come thru and block the threads anywhere in the action.. If I could have yours or anyone else;s thoughts would greatly help and also having to wait on the barrel nut is excruciating lol

Ok Folks got my problem fixed.. A bit of advice if your doing an Axis, Make sure you really clean the action threads and if you have to run something in the threads you will be amazed at the amount of stuff you will get out.. When you go to put it back together make sure you have Copious amounts of anti seize for lube Now for the barrel nut to show up so I can get it all head spaced and out to the range so I can enjoy it even more...

+1, sometimes the junk in the threads is almost like small gravel. I wire brushed and used a small pick to get the last pieces out. This was a factory Axis barrel. The barrel nut was still a tight fit but smooth all the way up the threads.

i clean both receiver and barrel threads before any install with solvnt and tooth brush, then liberal amount of anti-seize(aluminum based).
glad to hear you finally got it all worked out. get shooting now!
