So over the week I loaded up some 107 gr sie4ra matchkings. Using lapua brass, no. 41 primers, and 8208 xbr powder. I started at 27grains and went to 29.7. I fired a 10 shit ladder test at 200. This was interesting. All shots were very close with not much variation.
Next I fired 5 shots of each powder draw for velocity. Some variation in velocity but I can get a general idea what each draw will produce. The 27 grain produced about 2450 fps and the 29.7 around 2750.
The groups tend to be better around the 28 mark.
My 28 grain load were able to get a 3 shot group of about 4 inches at 500 yards. These were better than the guy next to me at the line. He had a savage target action set up factory with 6.5 creedmoor through a 30" tube. Granted he had 139 grain sst with a crimp.
All and all I am excited. Why I chose the 107s vs the 123s. Well when I originally purchased my barrel I set it up for a hunting rifle to shoot the 100 grain partitions. Well my hunt lease expired so I decided to play with the rifle for target practice.
Applied balistics states the 107 will stay super sonic out to 1000, but I am sure the wind will be a son of a beast on the bullet.
Next up is a ladder test out to 500 and see where this goes. I figure I can get my hand loading skills down before I invest in the 6.5x47 lapua bolt action I am planning.
