The rifle looks great. Went with a 20" standard profile 1:8. Broke in the barrel just like the website said. But accuracy is not what I expected. The day I broke it in, I could not keep it in a 8 in target at 100 yards. My second time out. I used 3 different types of ammo. Including what I used to break in the barrel. Freedom munition 62gr new American Eagle 55gr black box Federal 62gr green tip I attached some pics of my groupings of a 8" target at 100 yards. If anyone has some suggestions, I would appreciate it. I tried ruling it out by using my 16" daniel defense, but that rifle shot 1.5" groups with the same ammo. In addition, i have changed out the muzzlebrake after reading that perhaps that is the issue. I bought the recommended muzzlebrake from muzzlebrakes and more. Thanks for the suggestions in advance.

Shoot it without the brake. Make sure the gas tube is not hitting inside the key. How much torque on the barrel nut? Make sure the gas block is not hitting the FF tube.

Buy some decent ammo. Everything you tried is cannon fodder. Actually I'm impressed with the targets you posted with the ammo you shot them with.

Glshooter, thanks for the feedback. I will take a look at the key to see if the gas tube is hitting it. I know when I torqued the barrel it was within spec. The ff handguard is not touching the gas tube.

Rjohnson, thanks for the suggestion. That is next on the list. My only head scratching moment would be, why is the daniel defense shooting way more accurate with the same ammo?

Greg and Ritch are vastly experienced in building, reloading and accurizing rifles. I am not. But I will add these bits of "food for thought"... - The problem could be in your scope or mount. Swapping scopes from a good-shooting donor is one way to test. - Facing/lapping the receiver, if it wasn't done, may improve accuracy. If you aren't familiar with the concept, watch this video. You can get the lapping tool for around $25-$35+ (with or without shipping) from a number of places. Here's a link to an example (the same I've used on most of my ARs... eventually to be all of my ARs): www.midwayusa.com/product/821295/wheeler-engineering-delta-series-upper-receiver-lapping-tool-ar-15. Some also like to "bed" the barrel extension using blue loctite. If your barrel slid easily into the receiver or felt loose and wobbly, I'd consider the loctite option in addition to facing. If it was really loose, I'd consider shimming between the barrel extension and receiver body. But I'd like to hear what Ritch and Greg have to say about that concept (mainly because I have one build (yet to be fired) that has 0.002-0.003" of slop between the extension and receiver... A self-serving bastard. Yes, I can't deny it). Is that an ALG handguard you're using? I have them on several of my rifles and have had only positive experiences with them - the best bang for the buck in handguards, IMHO. If it is and you've shimmed it correctly, your torque shouldn't be an issue. But if the receiver face is a wee-bit out of square or the mating surface is beveled (i.e. reduced contact area between the mating surfaces), it could degrade accuracy. And that's where lapping can help. Again, this is just food for thought...

Great eye! Yes that is an ALG handguard. Here is my build. I was hoping to skip any upper receiver issues by buying a decent billet upper.
-20" bhw standard profile 1:8 -muzzle brake from muzzlesandmore (bhw recommended) -ALG handguard -Spikes gas tube and low pro gas block -CMT bullet upper -Fail zero bcg -palmetto state armory lbk w/ Magpul str -Rock River 2 stage varmint trigger. -primary arms 4x14 acss reticle

I will take a look at the barrel to receiver fitting. Next trip to the range will be in 3 weeks. I will have match grade ammo this time.

It cycles great and i have had zero ftf. I'm hoping that the ammo is the issue.

- The problem could be in your scope or mount. I would be looking hard at this.

This maybe a little late but I've been away, however I would like to see how this turned out for you. I have a 20" BHW 1:8 barrel and I've shot two of the three ammo's you tested with groups on average 3-4". With that said my handloads, 77gr 69gr nosler and 77gr 69gr blackhills ammo shoots around 1/2" at a 100yds. Handloads average 3/8-7/16". I have a few other ar's that can shoot the cheap stuff better but those ar's I would say were also on the cheap side and I guess you could say were designed to shoot that cheap ammo. BHW is higher grade barrel and likes higher grade ammo.
That AE 55gr is light for your barrel and the federal 62gr you mentioned is most likely a 855 or a 855 wannabe, from my experience I have not found a 5.56 load that my BHW barrels like. Seems they prefer the slower better made .223 rounds.
I've had good luck with primary arms optics but that said some time's one gets out that just can't hold zero, something to look into. Also is that a PA mount? If so does it have the lock ring on the bolt?

I looked into everything that you guys suggested, bought some match ammo and headed to the range. There was a nice breeze at times and I think if I did a better job on my part the groups would of been better. To say the least it was an exciting day! Ammo used: all 223 not 5.56 Black Hills - 69gr Match PPU PRVI 69 Match PPU PRVI 75 Match The rifle seemed to prefer the 75 gr and blackhills shot great too. The bigger targets are 2in and the small black dots are just under 3/4 in and the one little orange dot is 1/2 in. All in all I am extremely happy and it is only going to get better with practice. Thank you to everyone for the suggestions.

Much better. Get some Federal Match and see how that looks. They demand quality ammunition to produce quality performance.

Thanks Greg.
I will grab some of that for the next trip.
Eventually I would like to get into loading as this hobbie seems to be growing. lol
