i know i know not a new question here. . . but here it goes. i am heavily invested in the 6.8. it seems that the recommended bullet is 95 grainers. both of them seem to shoot them equally fast with good accuracy. if i was starting from scratch i would probably get the lbc but with all the 6.8 stuff i have is there a significant gain in the 243 lbc over the 6x6.8.
i should add that i am looking for a 1000 yard gun. that is my main goal here. allthough 600 yard will probably be shot more often.

Your questions are pertinent to my interests. Curious to see what the wizards tell you.

They are not equal with a 95 grain VLD style bullet. Simply put, the 6.8 case is to long for the 95 grain and up bullets. If you plan on using 90 grain bullets and lighter the 6.8 case is the best platform. When the bullets get longer, the Grendel case has all the qualities that make the perfect long distance setup. It's a simple matter of using the right tool for the job at hand. Another little kink in all this is, brass quality. Currently, there is NO GOOD 6.8 brass. It can be made by sorting by weight and then match prepping and then sorting again, but it can't be bought off the shelf. The Grendel brass ( Lapua ) is as close as your phone or the click of your mouse. No muss no fuss and you have 243LBC match brass. 90 grain bullets and lighter, go with the 6x6.8 Anything over 90 grains use the Grendel case, 243LBC

Is it possible to load the 95 long in a windowed mag to get where it needs to be in the x68. It seems the 95's are the ticket for 1000 yards. I understand about brass. That is my biggest concern. But it is Also why I consider the 68 so strongly as i have a lot of it.
So with grendel you simply buy brass, size it, shoot it. That's it for match quality results. I mean as far as brass goes.

Even with a cut magazine it is too long in the 6X6.8 Also opening up the mag well won't work with the 95 SMK either to reach the lands. Those bullets are LONG. The 6.8 is usable but it is straining to get the performance I want. LAPUA BRASS not just any Grendel brass is the ticket. Crap brass means crap results. No question on the quality of the Lapua compared to any other 6.5 or any CURRENT 6.8. One other thing is the 95 SMK's are cheap compared to the bullets that are being shot on 6.8 Forum. The LBC chamber was designed for the VLD bullets and the results down range reflect the success of that reamer design. Making a 6MM variant involved a lot of testing and tweaking. With the choices of profile and lenght on demand it is probably the easiest way to get top end performance custom made to specific needs. The guys that buy these get what they want in a timely manner. Greg

This sounds pretty sweet. Long range accuracy with little cartridge effort. Put the effort in where I really need it. Me.
