I was making some loads up with 87 hornady hpbt and getting up to .008 differences in oal measurements. This was measuring with a comporator of the ogives not measuring of the tip of the bullet. I also measured just the bullets and they were varying a lot I have never seen them vary this much by measuring of the ogive. Any help would be great.

Make sure your seating off of the ogive and not the tip of the bullet. Does the same thing happen with other types ( BRANDS ) of bullets? What brand of seating die are you using?

This was a hornady seating die with micrometer top. I measured the bullets before seating and found the same thing so the bullets themselves are varying a lot. I measured two other style Of bullets and did not find this. I was not measuring of the tips of the bullet either was measuring of the o give.

Unless they are pure accuracy loads off a bench you probably will never see a difference on target. For gris get five that are close in three different groups and then five that are a total mix and shoot for group. I suspect you will see little quantifiable difference. Greg

Ok I called hornady and they had me measure some while I was talking to them and they were righting them done some were .009 off and he said that's out of spec. So he sent me a prepaid shipping label and are shipping me a new box of bullets. So they are taking care of the product issues I was happy with the results. Thanks for the help
