Now that there's a few years on the different options, if a guy was looking to launch 108 eld-m, 105 amax, 105hpbt and already owned a 264 LBC. What's the best choice, barrel length, twist rate?
Does the 54k psi of the SPC buy you anything over the 52k of the Grendel? Does the Lapua brass for the Grendel tip the scale? What about the reamer lead that BHW uses for each?
This would be a light contour hunting rig. 22" probably but might could go 24, though never have.

If you are talking 6x6.8 vs lbc to shoot the heavies the lbc willl win because of the length of the case is to long on the 6.8. 87 and below for the 6.8 case and the lbc shines with the 87 and up. I would do a 1:9 twist myself for a lbc.

The LBC/Grendel case is short enough to feed from a magazine. The 6.8 case is simply to long. The bullets have to be seated so deep, and the case mouth will still hang over the ogive at mag length. You hit the nail on the head when you ask about brass. The Lapua brass is the game changer for the 243 LBC. You might want to run the numbers on the bullets you are looking at. You will get roughly 2750 FPS with a 105 out of a 24 inch barrel. you will get 2950 to 3000 FPS with a 95 SMK or a VLD. At 1000 yards the 95 will have more energy with less drop and less drift than any of the 105 class bullets. You also can stabilize the 95 grain bullets with a 10 twist. I would still go with the 8 twist for the flexibility it offers if I had to use the big bullets. The 243 LBC reamer has a lead designed for the longer bullets. It's pretty versatile, I used one for a couple of years shooting 58 grain Vmax bullets, without a problem.

Thanks guys. That confirms what I was thinking.
Is there much velocity loss between 22 and 24".
