I noticed loading some 87 g Berger vld 6mm bullets the other day that my oal was varying .1 or so measuring of the back of the case and the office with a hornady comparator. I measured the bullets them selfs and they were in spec. So I have a call to Berger and hornady about this and they told me I need the amax 6mm seater stem because the standard seating stem doesn't work as well with the amax or vld type of bullets. Was wondering if anybody like GLshooter or Ritch have had to do this I know they use these dies.

I'm not shooting VLD's in 6MM. The SMK's and Hornady 87's load pretty consistently.

Didn't you shoot some of the Berger 95s or did Ritch shoot them? Is Ritch using one of these amax seater steams? Just found this kind of crazy I never knew or read about it before. My hornady die come out of a hornady 243? die set so would it still be the same seater you guys are using or is it more for the 243win?

They must have been close on ogive placement. I only look at that not COL. Hornady 6MM seaters are all the same. Ritch doesn't use AMAX seaters. Greg

I just took mine apart and tried the fit with a 115 VLD and an Amax, both would seat just fine with the standard stem that came with the die. I could spin the bullet in the stem and make a ring around the bullet where it made contact with the seater stem. I didn't even know until today that Hornady even made a VLD seating stem. I knew Redding did but this was a first for me. I guess you learn something new every day.

Is there any other reason that it wouldn't seat them consistently? It was all over the boards. Would seat some were I wanted them. So my measurement that I wanted was 1.777 and I had them from 1.859 even 1.900 or so then some would seat at my desired 1.777 again. Just don't get why all of a sudden it's not working for me?

Other than the seating plug hanging up and not rising freely not a clue. maybe the new seater from them will get you fixed up. Greg
