I am building a double duty PRS gun that will also be used for culling operations. Going with the 24" Bull barrel and plan on shooting the 105 gr bullets. Has anyone run into any do's and dont's with these bullets like no VLD for example. Also what velocities should I expect? I have seen up to 2900fps on these forums.

Welcome to the board. No particular issues once you find the COL. You aren't going to even come close to hitting the lands so you may ormay not be able to use them. My personal feeling is the 90's would be far better for your usage on gamem Even for PRS the 95 SMK will be superior to the 105 because of the extra speed. 2950 vs 2850 is telling. The SMK or Berger are my choice at 500+. Groups for me are the same. I shoot the Sierra as they are cheaper.

Greg, Just got back from the range for my second trip with .243LBC. I am having some frustrating issues with seating depth. Namely I have seated 3 different types of bullets (87VLD HLD Hunting, 88gr Berger High BC Varmints, and 87gr Vmax) down to 2.26 COAL and I am still have the bullets jamming into the lands and not going fully into battery. I have several of the bullets get stuck in the throat when having to mortar the rifle to eject the rounds because I cannot discharge the round. This is a 1:9 twist barrel but the throat should be nearly as long a the 1:8 twist. I plan on calling Columbia tomorrow to try and get some insight, but may you can help. BTW I have bumped the shoulders back .003" with a Redding FL Type S sizing die. Any ideas?

What are you using to measure the shoulders with? PM sent. Greg

Thanks for the responce. So I should expect roughly 2950fps with 95s and 2850fps with 105s. That's pretty dang good. I can't get over 2850fps with any of my 243 Winchesters with the 105gr.

Unless you're running a very short barrel you aren't even close to your potential in a 243. I'd look at the Hodgdon data. 2950 on up is a piece of cake in a 243 with a 105. Greg

All my guns presure out before I get any higher. What gas block are most people using and what dies. Did a search and some say 6ppc but talked to a custom die maker and he said 6ppc wouldn't work.

Most guys are running adjustables from BTE, JP and Joe Bob's. Ritch and I run mostly BTE but I picked up some Joe's a few months back when George was out. The JP's are nice but way over priced. We use Redding Type S FL Grendel dies. These are bushing type. The PPC can be used but will not size far enough down the base. The same Reddings allow me to load from 20 LBC up to 264 LBC just with a bushing change. Greg

Perfect I load for the Grendal so I just need a bushing. What about the expander ball do you just not use one?

So your just decapping in a separate stag. I do but you don't have to. Redding dies come with a decapping pin holder that is smaller so it doesn't touch the case mouth. I do because I use SS pins and want the pockets empty. Greg
