Have an AR in 25/45 Sharps and a Mag pul mag or stoner 5 rounder. Magpul is a 10 round blocked to only hold 5 for deer hunting in MI.
When I load 5 rounds in either the mag will not insert even w/ the bolt back. Recently tried backing the mag release button out one turn--no fix.
Ant experience w/ that?? Suggestions??

You can't insert it past the mag catch at all? Greg

Can insert em all the way in except the last small part (1/8 to 1/4" perhaps) where the latch should click and lock it in.

Pull the upper and insert a magazine. If it goes in place with no upper but not with one in place it's time to trim a coil or two off the magazine. I'd try half a dozen different manufactured mags to verify the problem. Caliber doesn't matter.

It will insert w/ just lower or the combo "open", rear pin not inserted.
Ive not checked w/ the gun fully assembled and bolt "open." I suspect it will insert in that situation.

Let us know what it does assembled with the bolt forward. If no go clip a coil off the magazine spring. You may have to take a couple of coils off.

Suggestions?? your problem is there’s too much internal pressure in your magazine meaning it’s too short inside and it’s probably because the insert that restricts the capacit to five rounds on the ten round mag makes for less room in the mag, the five round mag is probably barely fits five rounds and is hard to get the last round in it? So it’s just too tight to allow the rounds to compress into the mag further, what happens when you inset a loaded mag is that it compresses another 1/8” to 1/4” because the bottom of the bolt carrier pushes down slightly on the top round in the mag and if there’s no room inside the magazine to compress that distance then it won’t latch in, I’d trim about 1/8” tor so off the round restrictor or load one less round in the magazine, so if it’s five rounds capable load four or three, what’s happening is when you have rounds in the mag there’s very little give, I wonder if when you load the bullets in the mag if the last round is very hard to get into the magazine? If so that’s a big hint that’s your cause because it’s too tight in the magazine and the spring can’t compress enough to let the mag seat into the receiver and lock in, at least this is what happened to me with a couple mags, if I had them loaded to capacity, 30 rounds for a 30 round magazine, then I couldn’t seat the mag unless I hit it real hard with the palm of my hand to get it to seat but that could dent a cartridge if slammed hard enough, but if I removed a round or two the mag fit perfectly, still a little stiff to seat it but it worked with fewer rounds in the magazine, Hole this helps BC

I've had the same issue with Magpul magazines in the 25-45. I appears that SOME Magpuls like to expand at the rib located at the neck of the cartridge. Even one round can make the magazine a "tight fit". ASC does make a 5 rd blocked mag, but I have no experience with them; 10 rd are my preferred configuration, and I've had no issues. The ability to "load long" is also nice.
