Any truth as to if this actually is real or hype? I own a JP AR15 that has a cyro barrel, but honestly I dont know if it shoots any better, or not. I do know it shoots VERY well. Anyone have a BHW barrel that has been froze?

Most of the literature is backed by commercial interests. I have yet to see a scientific and totally impartial test. Benelli started this and they say it helps with the barrels. I have old shotguns that shoot better than the new ones. American Rifleman did some testing and wrote an article on this. The NRA tested several barrels and the results where inconclusive. If you want to do your own test get a sealed tube with nitrogen and put your barrel there for 24hrs and then see if you see the difference. Again most info is commercially backed. Thanks.

This is an old thread, but I have access to a aerospace heat treat company that also does some correct cryo-tempering. I did have them cryo-temper the 24"stainless barrel that came with my DPMS LR308, but it was done as new (unfired) so who knows what change its made, and I haven't been able to shoot it enough to see how it performs.
But my question is, mostly to the BHW staff, would you advuse staying away from cryo-tempering on my new 6.8 barrel? The price was certainly right on my first barrel, not sure what it will be if I do another one, since things are slow.

I doubt if would hurt but my personal belief is that realistically the barrels shoot pretty well and I am not sure of the end benefit from the process. Will it make it more accurate? That is always the bugaboo. No one really knows. It won't save the throat and if one is not doing mag dumps I would question the economic investment. Not that any of us here have ever thrown money at a questionable new practice. Greg

Well it was done for free last time, and you can't beat that. I will see if there has been a price increase. If its not too much I will have it done, plus another barrel too.

I have a Sendero 25-06 that was Cryo'd and it does shoot a little better than before. How much better, about .2 inch average on 10- 5 shot groups at 100 yds which is not really conclusive. I can tell you that it seems to clean easier and it seems that it does not copper foul as much.
