Has someone experienced shooting a 300BLK on a Middy 16" BHW barrel before? I want to build one but get some bad stories on the web. Pictures would help too. Thanks.

I have. I am building a new one. As I am building I am also wondering why? Addiction maybe? lol I think you will find more joy with the 7.62x39 barreled to shoot .308 and .311 safely. The thing it needs a good beefed 7.62x39 bolt and special mags but then you do not have to reinvent the wheel and get more horse power and also subsonic. ACC is good to keep the same bolt and magazines. That is the only thing.

What sort of plans do you have for it? Suppressed or not? Midlength is truly too long of a gas system for the caliber. There's not much powder in the casing so the dwell time would be too long. Cycling issues would be a high probability. Stick with carbine with standard has port and work from there.

I'm shooting a 16" 300 Blackout currently and so far it is an excellent choice. I am in the process of getting my approval for my AAC SD 7.62 suppressor and will let you know how it operates when I can go pick it up. I intend to build an upper with an 11.50" barrel for my registered lower and will be running a suppressor on that as well. Kansas allows one to hunt with a suppressor so my next deer will most likely be taken by one of my 300 Blackouts suppressed. My 300 Blackouts are running a carbine length gas system.

I have been tossing the idea of a 300blkout... Now that I have my Lock-N-Load AP I could really kick out my ammo pretty cheap.

If you want to use fired and many times discarded 223rem brass the pain is brass preparation. It is way easier to produce it from a 221 fireball but today doesn't make any sense anymore so if you are to spend on brass vs. the virtually free x1 fired .223 they have great deals on 300 blk SAAMI pristine brass. If subsonic is not in the menu and you want to reuse the brass the easiest possible way is the 6x45(this one even easier than the .223 parent itslef) or even the .25x45 or maybe the 6.5 version. That last one will require a tad more work but lots of experienced folks here can assist you with any of the options. Many great choices so it is hard. Anyway, one cannot have too many uppers!!

Of course not midwayusa! lol! ... but several times in the forums I got offers of this brass between $150-$200 for 1000 cases. Folks seem to have the tooling and time to turn 223 into good blck loads. neck reamed and everything. Some progressive setups can be converted to process brass very quickly but I am not sure about this one. ...but I would not be surprised. Try gunbroker too.

Got it... thx
I was thinking of running my own brass as I have a minimill and it would not be to hard to set it up to shorten the brass but with the time and effort I am not sure I would want to do 1k. Maybe if it was CNC ;-) I was looking at midway and the price did not seem to bad.
thx again! Pat

I was at a gunshow yesterday here in Kansas and a person that has had a reloading and new loaded ammo business since the 80s had quite a bit of formed brass for sale. He buys primed brass that I am assuming has had the bullets pulled and forms them at his business. He had lots of the brass that has the AAC 83 head stamp which came from ammo sold to the government as US produced ammo and was found to have been made in Yugoslavia I believe. The contract specified it be US produced and when it was found it wasn't, it was rejected and thus a LOT of it had the bullets pulled and powder salvaged and cases and bullets offered to reload with. Obviously there must be a ton of it out there as I have seen several reloaders use it. He also was offering primed Lake City brass with a 2010 stamp with the NATO stamp on it he had formed. He had lots of new ammo loaded with the LC brass. I bought 250 cases of the LC brass and will be loading some of them soon.
