I built my first AR around a BHW 264 LBC barrel. I am in the break in period using Hornady factory Ammo; approx 40 rds down the tube. All of my brass has some denting at the case mouth and I am getting some scratching on the upper receiver from the ejecting cases. Is this normal or do i need to adjust something? thanks in advance

That's pretty well standard. There are two ways to fix this. 1 get a piece of Velcro with the sticky back and put it on your brass deflector. Use the soft side. 2 Use an adjustable gas block and slow the cycle rate down.

Thanks! I was afraid that I did something wrong in my build.

Ritch beat me to it!! My 20 LBC has both the VELCRO and the adjustable gas block. The only scratches on my cases are from the entry lugs on the extension as the rounds feed past them.
I have zero dents on the base or the body.

I have zero dents on the base or the body. Greg Greg, I'm getting 2 scratches on the necks of my .260 Rem brass. These scratches appear to be happening after firing (the scratches cut through the soot on the neck). I was thinking that the brass might be hitting a couple lugs on the way out of the chamber. Is this perhaps an over or undergassed issue? I have an adjustable block. First rounds were fired at one full turn open, and I've tried up to 2.5 turns with no obvious difference in the scratches. The gas adjustments don't seem to affect the rifle function either so next time out I'll start from 1/4 turn open and work my way up again.

I see this on my brass also. You could go in and GENTLY break the edges of the BACK of the lugs in the extension and this might cut down on the scratches. I did that with mine and seemed to pick up some improvement. I also did the front on mine as I was geting nice deep scrapes onthe case bodies as they fed and that really improved the Grand Canyon effect. I have not noticed any significant variance from high to low gas port settings on this issue but it doesn't harm the brass in the reloading process. Not aesthetic mind you but pretty harmless. Greg

I was getting scratches on my 264 lbc cases as well. I painted a couple of rounds with a black sharpie and you could really see the scratches show up after i manually cycled the action. I just rounded down the back of the 2 lugs a tad with a dremel and that seemed to take care of the problem.

Thanks Greg and Ralphob.
If it has no effect on reloading then I will ignore it for now. I may just get bored one of these days and go after the back of the lugs a bit, but for now its working so I'll leave it alone. I have only re-loaded 40 cases and they don't seem to have any issues, but I'll keep an eye on them.
