I know it's been a while since you asked, but I can give you some input on the MTAC.
1st, I'll say both scopes are good choices & I looked hard at both before deciding on the MTAC for my patrol rifle.
I do not regret going with the Burris. I like the way the circle reticle seems to help center the target during rapid fire CQB type shooting (<50yrds). The dot in the center is plenty accurate enough for my style shooting at 100yrds. The reticle can be used for range estimation fairly reliably. & the range compensating dots are pretty dang close for me & my ammo out to at least 200yrds.
I work nights, so I appreciate the illuminated reticle. I like the knob rather than push button of other scopes & having an off position between each level is very handy. The illumination is subdued enough at 2 or 3 that it doesn't glare in a dark environment. And, if needed, the higher settings are visible, even in Texas sunshine.
With the scope on 1X, I can use it much like a red dot, with both eyes open. It has plenty of eye relief to be somewhat forgiving. The clairity of the scope is comparable to more expensive brands. I have mine in a a PEPR mount and this combo has been rugged enough to withstand normal bump/banging around & daily shifts riding in a soft case in the car trunk w/o loss of zero.
My only "negative" observation would be the fact that the center dot covers 2.5in at 100yrds. While this is plenty good for "minute of man" it makes it hard to shoot a group much smaller than that. So golf balls at 100yrds are a challenge.
I don't know that you could go wrong with Vortex, but I can tell ya I sure like my MTAC.

thanks for the info. That helps alot. I do want something very durable but also wish to be very precise for a 1-4x, so I could maybe use the rifle for some multi gun. The 2.5 in seems a broad but might work. The reason why I ask is that nobody in my area carries either one of these. Only leopold and trijicon.

Hi, A quick comment from a new guy, I will agree with the previos poster giving Burris high marks for quality and value as I too find them a valued part of my small weapons cache, but I have also had experience with a fellow officers vortex and it impressed me in it's clarity and ruggedness, it's clicks were very possitive and its increments are on for 855 out to 250yrds. I have tested several of the scopes in the vortex line up and bought 3 of various types for task specific duties and have not found them wanting, one took the place of a leupld cq/t, and has shined at the range when tasked . for what its worth.. a.a.
