I have just purchased a 16" LTM barrel in 5.56 and am researching bolts and carriers to go with it. Is there a particular brand or type (chrome vs phosphated vs nickle) that might be a better fit for the BHM barrel? Is there a particular bolt that will fit with the proper headspace off the shelf? Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have. The BCG's can be had all three ways and a few more. The regular old phosphated ones run perfectly well. The others offer a bit less cleaning and are a tad slicker. ALL will run 100% on a BHW barrel if the gun will run period. It has no idea what the BCG is made of. As to one head spacing better than the other........if you buy a quality, as in mainstream recognized manufacturer, you will not get any better or worse no matter what you buy. Specs are so good anymore that it is almost a throw 'em in a bucket and start grabbing parts just like the military does. When I do a build I start buying parts from various places. So far I have had no fitting problems and they APPEAR to shoot well. Greg PS: Welcome to the board. Lots of great guys and information here.

Thanks Greg. That's kind of what I thought from all the materials I have been reading but it helps to have the opinion of someone more experienced and knowledgeable. So if I run a function check with dummie rounds it should be good to go? Thanks again, Terry

So if I run a function check with dummie rounds it should be good to go? Thanks again, Terry Well, it would be good to do that but like Stock Car racing dynamos are good but when the rubber meets the road we see what all the horsepower will do!! Hand cycling is not always the be all to end all when it comes to testing for reliability. I would not worry much if I had a quality name brand BCG combo. I know the BHW barrels will be head spaced right and 99.9% of your parts will be within spec. I worry more about a new rifle doubling on the first few shots then I do about it rupturing a case or something more. Greg

Check out the bolts and bolt carrier groups from Sharps Rifle Co! They offer several types of coatings and finishes and the ones I have function great. There called the relia-bolt because of the bolt locking lug geometry and they are made of heat treated S7 tool steel. They cost more than you run of the mill BCG but they come with a life time guarantee regardless of who purchased it. Hope this helps

Good example. Too bad old Missionary hasn't been on in over four years. The reliabolt is an answer to a problem that doesn't really need adressing IMHO.
