All excellent points made by the prior post's...Your choices are
limited for the .300 Blk. as it was designed more for subsonic
and suppressed fire.
There are some really good projectiles like the Barnes 110 gr.,
Speer and Nosler brands also offer some good hunting projo's.
The biggest problem being the limited distances offered by the
minimal case capacity of the .300 Blk. and pretty minimal B/C
in the weight classes we are talking about for supersonic work.
The 7.62x40mm WT (.223 based) and the .30 HRT or even
the 7.62x39mm may serve you better in a hunting senario
in .30 Caliber.
You may want to consider the 6x45mm, 25x45mm, or 6.5mm PCC
rounds, while staying in the .223 based family of cartridges for
ease of conversion and better ballistic performance, the
one offering the longest range/B/C & S/D being the
6.5mm PCC...All the above cartridges are made by
/chambered by BHW .
Good Luck.
Realistically we have no idea what the ACTUAL velocities are on the 6.5 PCC. We have no idea, nor any documentation, what the actual operating pressures are. We do know that no two are alike since they are being hand throated AFTER they leave BHW. BHW 6.5 PCC barrels are produced per original reamer size and are then being "customized" post sale. It is completely unrealistic to categorically state any cartridge will do"XYZ" if each is different. Without a true documented baseline being done by more than one individual any data would be suspect and not transferable to circumstance of usage in any venue.

Hi Greg,
All are ACTUAL Chronograph loads that have been posted by
ACTUAL 6.5mm PCC END USERS during their field testing and
load developement.
Well if you don't believe me or the 6.5mm End Users that have
posted their results here and on other AR-15 forums perhaps
I can give their phone numbers...Oh, the pictures of the
dead game that have been shot with the 6.5 PCC round
are not real, they are stuffed animals
.
The post chamber/barrel work is done as a secondary
Quality Control, with professional equipment BTW,
with/for those that plan to use VLD type rounds and
long COL magazines in mind...FYI, the throating is now
done on lathe. Unlike some other shops, I take pride
in my customers satisfaction, I will on occasion get a
short chambered or extra tight chamber and of course
I will correct it with the reamers and gauges that are
kept in the shop. I will also polish up the chambers even
if no work was done to it, as well as do a complete headspace
and function test before the barrel is delivered to it's new loving
home.
Perhaps when you get your own Wildcat Cartridge,
Website, Milling Machine, Lathe and other professional
tooling and equipment costings thousands of dollars
and University Degree in Engineering then we can talk,
and you will perhaps have a better understanding...
All of this while raising a family in one of the most expensive
areas of the country...I believe is a pretty awesome accomplishment .
I also did LEO/Sec. work for several years and it was
a humbling experience to say the least.
One last thing, for those who have been following the 6.5mm PCC
wildcat, Pressure Testing results are (finally) due in by the end of
next week.
There will also be a new feature article with a major publisher on
the 6.5mm PCC in the near future...
Thanks for your support.
