Has anyone had any success loading 87gr vMax for 6x45. I had a few rounds I loaded and they were indeed terrible.
I used 25gr H335, got a very good standard deviation however accuracy was non-existent. Was seeing some pressure so was going to back off quite a bit and load some at 23, 23.5, 24 of H335 and retest.
Would appreciate if anyone has any experience with this bullet and the 6x45 or any ideas.
Thanks

I just bought a box of these to try. I loaded a few with IMR8208 to mag length. Got about 2-3" groups. I haven't given up yet on the VMAX but I am having better luck with Sierra 85 HPBT Game King bullets.

I have been shooting the 87 Hornady BTHP as opposed to the VMAX. Mine is also a "varmint" bullet but it is built to match bullet specs. Most of mine have been over mag length but the data could be massaged a bit.

I tried some more VMAX yesterday in front of 8208 without much luck. My best groups hovered around 2". I think I'm going to use up the rest of the box as plinkers or bunny busters.
The 85 grain Sierra Game King bullets shot much better, around an inch. I'll be trying the Hornady 87 grain HPBT next.

The HPBT's even better and the VMAX were slightly poorer than the. I need to go back a revisit the VMAX as I think it will work but I git jammed on time and have some other propellants I want to try. You getting any chrono numbers? Greg Greg

I have yet to try any Hornady's but I did some testing last week with Nosler 90g Ballistic Tips, 85g Gamekings and 70g Match Kings. The Noslers barely grouped at all. Could have been the shape of the ogive - loaded to mag length they would have to make quite a jump to reach the lands.
The GKs, which are quite a bit shorter, shot a lot better - 24.4g of VV N133 produced a 1.5" 3-shot group at 200y. The MKs did even better - 27.5g of 748 gave 1.37" My barrel is a 20" 1-in-10 twist.
I didn't chrono them as the cover over the 200y range cast a shadow out in front of the benches. If you are lucky enough to have a 200y (or longer) range to test loads, it will reveal any propensity for vertical dispersion in your loads.

Yes I think the jump to the lands maybe a big one for the 87gr Vmax loaded to magazine OAL...
I just loaded up some more test rounds with several different powers so I will hopefully be able to test this weekend at the ranch weather willing ... I will provide a full report once I get the data.

My test session for the 87gr Vmax was a fail due to 20mph gusty winds in South Texas. I didn't even set up to test it with the winds.
My brother did pop a little piggy Saturday morning so all was not lost - we had a nice smoked pig for dinner with a few cold, refreashing adult beverages that evening.
If i can get this rifle running we have an ever growing population of pigs down here. Will try again this coming weekend.
