I have an AR with a 24inch bull barrel from BHW and am wonder if any of you have had any luck shooting the heavy bullets with it. I have on hand some 80gr & 82gr Bergers and some 85gr Barnes Match Burners. Just curious if any of you guys are running these.
Thanks

The 75gr. pills are about the longest that can be run in a AR-15 at mag. length.
You would likely need a speciality VLD/modified magazine for anything longer than that...
You will need at least a 1:8 twist bore for those long pills...
Good Luck.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will be single loading all of aforementioned bullets and the BHW barrel I have is 1-8 twist. I also have a 1-7 twist but that barrel is only 16". Just thought this would be the best place to ask if anyone using a BHW barrel has had any success with these heavy bullets.

Lil late on this one.. but i havent had good luck with any of the bullet/powder combos that ive tried so far except a 40gr nosler loaded with H322 that went sub MOA.. all the others with 68, 70, 72, 75, 77, 80, 80.5, 82, 85, and 90gr have been closer to 2moa. I finally got some IMR 3031 to try with the heavies and gonna try some WC842 along with H335..
The heavies with my trusted Varget loads went down the drain. 40Gr Vmax and 40Gr Nosler HPFB went into a .75moa group so maybe one day it will wake up.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but 2moa out of a bull barrel is pretty poor accuracy when using larger bullets in the 223. My 24", BHW bull barrel shoots 1/2moa at 100 and just slightly larger groups at 200 using 24.5grains of Reloader 15 and the Sierra 68 gr. BTHP bullet. That's about the max length that I see a use for. Beyond that, I'll switch calibers leaning toward my .264lbc for the long stuff. Just me on that opinion!
Of course accuracy is up to each of us doing our part, too. Every barrel, like every shooter, is a little different. It's not unusual for several loads to work well. I'm cheap... I find a powder that my barrel set up likes and I stay with it. Of course, working up the load may take several powders to really dial it in, but that's the cost of business - as they say.
