I am putting together a 6.8 SPC build and one of the individuals proposing to do the bid has suggested to cyro the barrel. I am using a BWW light profile barrel. Is this a wise or recommended thing to do with BHW barrels?

Is this a wise or recommended thing to do with BHW barrels? Cyrogennics was a fad that has faded away. A few people made some good money using the process. It was never proven to help or hinder a barrel. If it were me I would spend the money on ammunition or glass or even another build. Maybe take your wife to dinner. It will have about the same effect on your barrel.

Thanks, I thought it might even do more harm than good.

It may be called a fad but JP Rifles still does it and uses www.diversifiedcryogenics.com/ . Also a company 300 Below does it but they are more expensive. it may or may not work but for $50 it could be worth it. I'm send my 6.5 Grendel to them but since its brand new I won't know if it helps or if it was a good Saturn Barrel to begin with. Also for $50 it might not hurt and it wont kill your glass budget.

If it really worked every shooter out there would be doing it. If the theory is correct your barrel would be changing based on the ambient temperature. We all know it doesn't happen. 300 below used to do a lot of benchrest barrels, as of right now I can't think of any shooter having there barrels frozen. Your right $50.00 is not a lot of money, but it would buy me a case of beer and a bag of chips. Or enough brass to shoot out a barrel.

The cost estimate for Cyro in my build was $80. When I told my builder that I didn't want it, he made no attempted to talk me into it. His view was some clients wanted it and some didn't so he listed it as an option.
