I know everyone says there is a big problem with hogs in the south but I don't have any contracts that have any of these wild hogs that need shooting that are not on a hunting ranch. I don't want to go somewhere without having good plans made and try knocking on a farmers door to try to hunt. If anyone knows of a good place to go please share. Thank you. Brian

Brian The hogs were only a problem until the ranchers figured out they could charge people to hunt them. Good luck trying to find a ranch that is over run with hogs that will let you hunt for free.

That sucks, it looks like I might have to do some more networking.

What part of South are you looking at No where in particular. Myself, my dad, uncle, and neighbor all want to go somewhere. It would be nice to be within a days drive 16-18 hours of northern Indiana. We are trying to line something probably for March time frame. Brian

There are places in Texas where you can hunt and stay for about the same price of a nice motel room. You need to think about how and when you want to hunt. Stock the hogs or hunt at a feeder during the day or night. That will dictate the equipment you will need. I live in Washington, but hunt hogs in February and March in Texas. I have a very small property (42 acres), that hogs migrate through. I hunt during the night with the aid of feeder lights. Read up on where to shoot the hogs, as I lost the first few by shooting them in the lungs (308) and they just ran off to die. I recommend head shots or shoot them so that you brake the front legs. You might also want to look at Hog rifles thread. I am currently having a 6.8 SPC with a BHW barrel being built in Texas for my next trip. it should be finished by the end of the month. Hope this helps. Hog hunting is a hoot.

I just got my 6.8spc barrel and I am going to get it together this week. I was also thinking about taking my bow. What part of Texas do you go to? My brother in law is from around hough springs but he is not a hunter and doesn't have good connections for it either down there any more and I don't know how many hogs are in that area either.

My place in Texas is near Clarksville in Red River County. I am new to hog hunting, so I have only shot a few pigs. The last one I shot is shown in the hog rifle thread. I bought a small place in Texas, as my daughter lives near Dallas/Ft Worth and I wanted a place where she could go spend some time away from her job and have a break from graduate nursing school. Also, so I had a reason to spend more time with her when I headed down that way. I spend a lot more time goose and duck hunting and know a lot more about them and fishing. Here are a couple of links that will give you some information on hog hunting in Texas. As you can see by the map, hogs are widely spread throughout Texas. However, there should be some states that have hog hunting nearer to you than Texas. www.hunting-in-texas.com/learnhogs.htm#hogmap3www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/nuisance/feral_hogs/John
