Wondering what powders I should be looking for. I have a few on hand that are listed for 17 rem in various manuals but not much info on the 17-223. Im going to be working with 25gr hornady hp. just looking for a place to start.
Thanks

Thanks, ive been there. Don't have much in the way of powder selection compared to the 17rem. Also been over at saubier and google with not much luck either.
Will I be ok to assume 17rem start loads will be a safe place to start? I have been trying to compare 17rem and 17-223 loads but haven't found a lot of sources of 17-223 data. Actually hodgdon was about the only one except for a few posts on various forums.

The old Hogdon's manual has data in it. What powders are you wanting to use? The 17-223 is actually a bigger case than the 17 Rem. So yes you can use starting 17 Rem loads.

Was trying to find some data for rl 15, varget, 8208. I plan on running ar comp to start with since that's what I have the most of but I am about positive I wont find any data for it. Its very close to varget and rl 15 but is slightly faster. I also have benchmark and h335 and a few others that I can get my hands on but Im also open to hearing what has been working well. I should have enough time before my barrel shows up to find a diff. powder if its something that should work a lot better.
Thanks

I was thinking I would be good with 17rem data but just wanted to check a few more sources before I got there. You know what they say about making assumptions....

yea, I really don't have much intention of taking for pdogs too often. I shot a red fox with my 6x6.8 with 58zmax and actually did not tear him up too bad..until I skinned him out and the hole grew from 3-4 inches to 7-8inches! I did manage to get it sewed up and I think it will turn out decent but just wanting something to take out if I plan on hitting a spot where I know a fox is. This fox happened to come from a spot that I have called about 15 times and did not call in a single critter so he was complete surprise, plus I flinched and did not make a perfect shot on him.
