is there any possibility of a 26" finished barrel for a Remington 700 chambered in 7 Rem Mag? 24" isn't quite enough to fully utilize all the powder in a magnum. I'm planning on a 7-08 that's 24" as well, and am hoping to build both rifles to me as close to identical as possible, considering short vs long action.

Yes Black Hole will make bolt action barrels 26" long. I'm wanting a 264 Win mag that's 26" for myself.

That is excellent! I know it's posted somewhere, but I haven't found it yet, are the bolt action barrels stainless or chrome moly? I would presume fluting and Cerakote to be options? Lastly, you have Mossberg listed as an option, which some are made by Howa, so that leads me to think a barrel for a Howa could also be an option. Would I be correct?

ALL Black Hole barrels are 416R stainless. We don't make any chrome moly barrels at this time. All the options for the bolt action barrels are available just as the AR barrels. As for the Howa a call to the office would get you the answer to your question. I'm not sure if the threads on the Howa made models are the same as the later models. The barrel nut could be be the potential problem.

I will give them a ring next week. Knowing what will and won't work in advance will defi help keep me on track with these two projects.

As it turns out, your shop manager said he would gladly make a barrel for a Howa action. But, the problem I've run in to is pricing for a barreled action. I'd be better off buying a complete rifle. So, considering that, I'm going with a 700 action since they've brought the ADL series back. Over $100 less than a Howa, and the 7 mag I'm looking to customize is also a 700.

I would look at the Savage rifles if you are going to start from scratch. The floating bolt of the Savage can't be beat.

I've put serious thought in to that option as well. But, solely based on the fact that I want to have this rifle match my 7 mag, which is also a 700 action as much as possible, I'm going the 700 route.
