Hello, Looking for load data/rec's for 87 grain vmax bullets - Hi Greg - I saw your footprints on some other boards with quite a bit of 6x45 info. I usually shoot 75g but want to try an 87g, current powder choices are h322, 8208, tac, also do have some oooold 4895. I've got a copy of the old guide that used to be around, however not a lot on 87g's. Going to do a ladder but not sure where to start an what may be the most effective powder for the weight. Coming out of a 20" barrel although I love for it come out nicely out of my 12.5" bhw barrel. Any thoughts or input? As always, SuperThanks

As always, SuperThanks Pull up the Hodgdon web and use the 85's, the site for Western and Accurate powders, my favorite BTW. Loading Manual. That will cover those 87's that to me are the perfect heavy weight bullet for the 6X45. I still refer to the big file that was all over the net and Predator Masters. If you need it send me a PM and email address and I'll send along mine. H4895 or RL15 worked well in my 6X45's. Experientially on various cartridges those shooting the fastest load in a 20 will get you the fastest laod in the 12. Not enough play room do deal with. I found this out four decades ago shooting IHMSA Open. Greg

The hodgdon site/calc is a really nice tool. I think i'm going to try the 8208 as I have that and I've been doing to test load for my grendel, it would be nice to have one powder for both. However, I'm also considering cfe223, the grendel reviews are good but no 6x45 data. The hodgdon calc won't list the powder in the matrix when selecting the 6x45 caliber but I guess I'll figure it out. I really like the 8208 but it aint cheap, best I've found is about 26 a can and I've found the cfe223 at about 21. My goto round is a 75grain vmax w/ 24 grains H322. I've haven't chrono'd my 20" barrel but I shot a few of these in my 12.5" and was getting a bit over 2700 all with BHW accuracy - thanks for your input!

That's good speed with a short barrel. Benchmark is another one to look at. Just grab the heavy 556 data and move up.

... I'm also considering cfe223, the grendel reviews are good but no 6x45 data.... Did a similar thing, got some cfe223, tried a few, speed was good, didn't test for accuracy. Was looking for a backup up to 8208, that is my goto powder for the few cartridges I do reload. Found in other forums that cfe223 is temp sensitive, plus it is too fine grained,,, so I've continued to look for another backup powder. Got a jar of 4166, it is slower burning that 8208, haven't used it yet, time will tell.
