My son bagged his first Moose! He used my .375 Ruger. Just about 1.5 miles from our house. It was -60 out(with wind chill), we quartered it and gave out all the meat to elders and his grandparents. He took his time and hit it right behind the front leg, it was still standing even after that. I had to drop it so it didn't run any further. I am so proud of him, this weekend has been too good to me and my family.

That right there is good stuff. Making memories he will tell your grandkids about one day.
It don't get much better than that.
Gave all the meat away?

It is our tradition in our Culture, as is most Native Cultures, that the first kill of any species needs to be given out to elders, widowers and people who can't hunt. I am not one to question Tradition, i have been served well by abiding by it!

Perhaps MODERN society would do well to look at it's roots a bit more and realize that traditions are not all for show. They do serve a purpose. Greg

.375 Ruger is a pretty impressive caliber. It seems that this young hunter has no trouble with a bit more recoil than a .243 congrats

With this, his first step into a much bigger world. Great job you guys

Thank you Carl! I am so proud of him, he was walking on air after when he told his Grandparents and when he brought them meat.

Thats awesome. Moose steaks for dinner! Just make sure you dont accidentally hit the VOR antennae I see in the second pic. I might be needing that. I miss living on the north slope.
