I have three AR's at this time. One has a 3.5lb RRA; one has a 3 lb Chip McCormick; one has a 3 pound, skeleton, Timney. I've been using RRA for over 35 years in competition and have never had one fail. Crisp, clean and very nice trigger. For the price it is just as nice as my McCormick and Timney trigger. I think the lock time is faster, too.
As far as price, if you want a one piece, drop in unit, the McCormick is just as nice as the much more expensive Timney unit. Many of the match triggers are getting hard to find these days. Good luck. There are a ton of options out there limited only by your budget and willingness to try.

So, what's it gonna be for my first build? A Timney, or a CMC, or possibly a JP trigger? Midway has a single-stage CMC on sale for $159. A good deal? Rifle will be for moderate-distance (100-200 yds) shooting, as I have a Savage Model 12 bolt-action bull-barrel for longer distances. Recommendations are encouraged.

Both are really good choices, I have both and would go with the CMC as it beats the Timney on price 9/10 times...

Thanks, that's what I was also thinking. I will learn as I go with a good quality trigger, a decent upper, and a BHW barrel. What more could one desire (other than cheaper ammo) ?

If it were mine, I would go with the JP single stage with the speed hammer. Total is going to be around $150. It isn't a trigger assembly and you will have to put it together yourself, but if you follow the very easy directions that come with it, you will not be disappointed.
Better than my Timney for the same price as the CMC.

I've tried the RRA 2- stage, Giselle 3-gun, and JD EZ Trigger. Bang for the buck I would give it to RRA and maybe add the JP trigger ($10) to lighten the pull. My favorite trigger is the JP EZ trigger. Once adjusted its so clean and the reset is so short. Its a really great trigger group. I have 2 installed in my AR's.

All the RRA NM I have installed have been a big improvement over the standard triggers that came with the various parts kits. I have used some of the modular triggers like the CMC and they are crisp and light as advertized. But I find any AR trigger less than 3.5 lbs is too light for regular shooting. I don't shoot in many competitions but I have seen some premature discharges due to excited trigger fingers and too light triggers.
