whats everyone's favorite trigger for the AR-15? after researching it I am leaning towards a JP or possibly a Jard. Jewels and such are a bit out of budget, and I read that the modular triggers can be a bit finicky to keep running properly in field conditions.
was looking at the RRA national match 2 stage, but I think a single stage trigger better suits my needs, and they have gotten some bad press also.

The RRA are good triggers and many guys like them. I have a pair of 3 LB Timneys that work quite well for me and one lonely Geissele High Speed Match Trigger that is unreal. One thing about the AR world that for every guy that likes a product there will be one along shortly that hates it. Much of it is subjective dislike with too many virtual shooters grousing off on how good or bad things are. Beware the guy that has been doing this for six months and beware the guy over on another board I frequent that believes nothing "new" is worth a pile of bull hockey and he actively discourages others from trying out and using new equipment. The old stuff was good enough for Moses and he figures it isn't needed. I think he still wears his coveralls with the can of SKOAL in the pocket up front. Greg PS: I have been doing this for exactly six months and one day so I can now pontificate with authority.

I think alot depends on what your rifle is used for. But I'm a believer that "lighter" is not as important as "crisper".
When I built mine, I was lucky & got 1 of the last Geissele S2S. It was exactly what I was looking for.
RRA is a nice trigger, & some like the CMMG.
A fairly new trigger that I'm hearing good things about is the ACT-ALG Defense Combat Trigger.
If you're going for something more precision oriented, the upper level Geisselles would be my 1st choice.

I am impressed with the RRA NM triggers. That is why I have them on all my AR's.

Rifle will be for casual long range shooting and perhaps a bit of hunting, lot of places have been sold out of the RRA triggers lately. May get a Jard if I can't get the RRA

My current build uses a geissele 3 gun dynamic. These are so crisp. I cannot wait to mate the monster to the barrel and get some lead downrange. It was easy to install too and the flat trigger looks awesome and gets the pull a distinctive feel

I prefer the Geissele line of triggers, the break is like a glass rod slipping at a 2.5 Lb. Break. The 1st one I got from a friend, it was the Geissele SSA and I feel in love with it because of my increase in accuracy. Then I got an SSAE and that was just as nice, but expensive . The last one I bought was the 3 Gun Geissele trigger and they are all just Awesome! I have a new J & P 3 Lb 2 stage trigger group that I'm going to put on the next .264 LBC sthat I build and thanks to Andy from Black Hole Weaponry, that's going to be Really soon . I'll be sure to post pictures of the Rifles as they are built. The 300 Blackout that I just finished putting together shoots great, but I need some bullets.

For about $150 you can get a single stage JP trigger/speed hammer group - An outstanding single stage trigger. Just about 90% of the 3-gunners use JP triggers. I have 4 of them in various used conditions from a few hundred rounds to 8-10k rounds and even the oldest one (10 + years old) is still reliable and clean breaking. All I had to do with it has been blowing out the grimes with compressed air and re-lubed.
If you want a two-stage, can't go wrong with RRA or Armalite. I have both RRA and CMMG triggers but they don't get used as much since I don't like 2-stage triggers.

How hard are the JP triggers to install? Read that a few people have had to do some file work to get them to work with the safety on their rifle, and just how important is it to get the speed hammer?

How hard are the JP triggers to install? Read that a few people have had to do some file work to get them to work with the safety on their rifle, and just how important is it to get the speed hammer? Takes about 30 minutes for me but I've done 8-10 already so don't have the learning curve. The most time consuming part is "timing" of the disconnector after trigger adjustment (pre/post travel) since you will probably need to file the disconnector hook to allow the release of the hammer, not a big deal but need to go slow here or have a spare disconnector in case you go too far. With regards to fitting the safety, yes some will require fitting of the safety depending on their lower. This just mean filing the tail of the trigger to allow the safety to rotate its full travel. Again, time consuming because you need to go slow here. However, JP also makes an adjustable safety that allow you to fit the trigger and safety together without filing. You can also obtain a complete kit with both speed hammer and adjustable safety. I just put one unit in my latest match rifle and it is very nice since everything came in one blister pack ready to go. www.jprifles.com/1.4.8.1_ezt.phpThe speed hammer is not required but sure makes the trigger set up what it is supposed to be, kinda like buy a Corvette and put on cheap tires

All ive had dealings with are the RRA 2 stage thats not bad at all, and Jard Adjustables. Ive got factory 28# triggers in most of my ARs, but in the couple that i shoot all the time they have Jards. One has a 1.5# and the other is a 3#. The 3# is in my night time truck rifle for the farm. Its seen far more abuse than any other rifle i have, and hasnt let me down yet. Now on the 1.5# trigger, It is not for the shooter that doesnt know how to follow thru on the trigger. Get a bump fire effect from the short travel reset and light pull weight so i dont let anybody else shoot with that trigger but me.

Can't praise Geissele for their match grade 2 stage.....very sweet and crisp, would be hard to go with anything else.

I really like both brands of drop-in trigger modules like the Timney & CMC trigger modules ...easy as pie to Install, 3-4 lbs. out the box, nice and crisp. I have them in my AR's.
For the traditional 2 stage RRA is nice for the price, for the pricier types Geisselle is also a nice option if in your budget.
YMMV.

For what it's worth......
The Jard trigger I have is decent enough to keep. Very smooth if lubed correctly. Single stage non-adjustable with a 3lb hammer pull. My only gripe is the rear of the hammer only have one "tang" to stop against the safety selector; and that results in some "wobble" left to right.
Everyone loves the RRA triggers, but I find them to be mediocre at best. They get the job done, and they are certainly affordable, but I have seen (and currently own) a few less than desireable examples.
I shot my buddy's Geisselle "3-gun" trigger and it is superb.
