I have most of the stuff layin around to build another AR (with the exception of the barrel). I think I'm gonna start thinking about what to turn these parts into!
The only "type" of AR that I don't currently have is a heavy barreled bench gun. I'm thinking long bull barrel, PRS stock, Timeny trigger, all that fun stuff. I want a rifle that I can shoot a lot. I want to be able to put 50 rounds per range trip then take it out and shoot 100 at pdogs.
I've pretty much narrowed it down to 2 options. 6x6.8 or 6x45. I love the 6mms and have a lot of bullets/brass available for both of these.
I'll be shooting the 58gr Vmax out of a 24-26" barrel regardless of what round I choose.
With all that said, the only thing keeping me from the 6x6.8 is that I don't know what the barrel life would be like. I don't "need" a .2" shooter but I'd like to keep it .5" as long as it lives! I don't have any experience but anecdotally, it seems like it would be nearly impossible to shoot out a 6x45 while a 6x6.8 might have the potential to go a little quicker.
For those of you in the know, would you shed some light on this for me?
Thank you!!!

For what it's worth, guys are saying 2500+ on the 6mmBR. I figure the 6x6.8 has a little smaller case capacity (not much) so it should be right around there if not a little more.
Any flaw in this logic?

Realistically the 6X45 would last longer. That being said the 6X6.8 is about on the high end of mid way to the 6BR. The 6X45 is burning 30 grains + or - 1 MAX. The 6X68 maybe 32 + or - 1 MAX. The 6 BR is about 35 +or - 1 MAX. ( Hodgdon quick check)
6X45 easy 5-6,000 rounds. 6X6.8 easy 4-5,000 IMHO. (With super accuracy). The 6X6.8 will coast when the 6X45 is straining a tad and give you a better shot if you go crazy and want to go to 90+ projectiles. The 6X6.8 will smoke a 55 grainer out there with the 6BR. We do this routinely with no pressure signs.
Given that I have shot the 6X45 over two decades and the 6X6.8 around a year or so I would still go with the 6X6.8. I have so much faith in it I just ordered up an 18" tube for my new 3 Gun upper to replace my 6X45.
One other thing I haven't seen a shot out BHW barrel yet.......HMMMMM.

I believe the bigger bore will let alone go a bit longer than the 6X6.8. Case capacity is almost identical between the two.
Look for 4500 to 5000.
