I walked out of my apartment yesterday and found a small cardboard tube, like the kind you keep a poster in, only it was only about 2 feet long, leaning against my doorway.
I then looked at the mailing label and saw it was from Denise of BHW!
So, I opened the tube with a maniacal fervor and looked inside to find a perfect, black-finished "regular" (not lite, not bull) contour 18" rifle-length BHW barrel in 5.56!
Wanting to see the Polygonal rifling, I held it up to the light and saw what looked disturbingly like burrs. After the initial reaction of "oh, that doesn't look good..." my more rational side took control and thought "maybe its a little clump from the finishing process..."
Not sure what it was, but one strong pull of my Bore Snake through the barrel cleaned out whatever it was, so I held the barrel to a bright light and saw a bore so immaculate, it looked like it could have been a glass lens! Even the BHW logo, printed in gold, almost looked like it could have been gold leaf!
I will be free-floating it in a Diamond Head VRS-T handguard, and a Yankee Hill Machine low-pro gas block. Unfortunately, my punch kept slipping as I was trying to pound the gas tube roll pin into the gas block, resulting in a mushroomed roll pin, so I'm going to have my local gun shop, Lanco Tactical in Elizabethtown, PA, help me out with that.
The barrel itself was a nice, tight fit into my flat-top upper receiver, and looks sharp! As soon as I get the roll pin into the gas block, and install the handguard, I'll post some pictures. No sights yet, as I'm trying to hold out for a fiber optic red dot sight from Meprolite (think Trijicon dot sight, but Israeli-made), preferably with the triangular reticule.
For those who have read my previous posts on this build, I'm going with a triangular theme for this gun, since it is a 3-groove barrel in a triangular handguard.
So, as of today, I officially have everything to have a working rifle EXCEPT for a BCG-- I know they're slowly showing up again, but I'm trying to hold out for a Nickle-Boron-coated complete group.
As soon as I get some more dough, I'm probably going to buy a couple more barrels, as I get the feeling that threaded barrels may still become an endangered species before too long...
Anyway, the barrel seems pretty awesome so far. I'll keep everyone appraised of its performance with stock .223 55-gr FMJ ammo, as 62-gr "green tips" are pretty tough to score right now...
