Been thinking about a .300 Blackout build and parts are coming in for everything except the barrel and gas port/gas port tube. I have pretty much decided on a Syrac Ord adjustable gas block, but now I am stuck on which length for the barrel gas port, pistol or carbine. What are the pros and cons of each?
It will be a 16" barrel and I will be shooting light through heavy weight bullets and a suppressor will be somewhere further down the road.

If it were me I would go with a pistol length gas system, if you plan to suppress it. If you are not, then go with a carbine gas system. Either way it will need to be an adjustable gas block.

Why pistol length for suppressed with a 16" bbl? I would think carbine length would be the way 2 go suppressed, unless building an sbr or pistol. That's a lot of gas going back thru that short of a gas system. 2 each their own, i was just wondering why.

Chamber pressures peak very fast and very early with subs. If you are shooting supersonic by all means go with the carbine gas system.

I'm looking to shoot a little of just about everything from sub to supersonic and from light to heavy bullets. At some point down the road I would like to shoot suppressed too. So if I understand you correctly, pistol length barrel with an adjustable gas port should allow me to turn down the gas for the supers and open it up for the subs? While I can turn the gas down with an adjustable port, I can not turn it up, so a carbine length might be pushing things a little too much with subsonic unsuppressed.
And yes, there are times when a quieter, low flash, but unsuppressed, subsonic heavy bullet may be just the ticket for what I want to shoot.

I'm all for pistol length, that's why i have one :-) My barrel is 8 1/2 inches tho n up here in mn we can't own suppressors. Just from wut I've read i was under the impression a properly tuned 16" carbine length should be able 2 run subs unsuppressed.

I'm looking over at SAA and the only barrels they have in 300 Blackout from Blackhole are carbine gas systems. Is that because the carbine gas lengths are more popular, recommended, or what? If there is somewhere else that carries the BWS barrels in stock and would have 300 BLK pistol length gas system barrels, let me know.

The reason they don't have any is because they sold out or didn't buy any. Now lets get to the "FIXIN PART". Call BHW direct and leave a message or get lucky and have them answer the phone. They have some 300 BLK's IN STOCK that may well meet your needs. I would also send an e-mail to SALES and ANDY. A multi-pronged approach is good with the tremendous demand for barrels and supplies at this time. Greg

I think Rich meant a pistol length gas system on a 16" bbl. Check out BTE for the gas block. Everyone on here speaks highly of them I just haven't got around to order one yet (but I need to)
