Has anyone in here worked up in hand loads that they have been happy with for their BHW 308B barrels? I've been using federal gold medal match and it isn't too bad. 0.75-1" @100 yards groups when I do my part. I was thinking I could probably get better groups if I sat down and did an OCW workup, minimized run out, and used consistent brass.

I have used the old standard vanilla load with 42gr H4895 and a 168 SMK. I had to adjust the seating depth to get to get what I wanted.

What size of groups do you get?

What size of groups do you get? Both of mine will hold around 1/2 if I don't make any mistakes.

Nice, that is what I'm hoping to get to. My barrel is an 18" std. profile.
I'm thinking 175gr SMK, Lapua Brass, CCI BR2 Primers, and Varget. I've heard good things around 43.5gr and 45gr with Winchester brass. I'm guessing when I work up I'll find it ~0.5gr less with Lapua Brass.
I looked up the 308B chamber drawing and it looks like I'm going to end up with at least a 0.1" jump if I load to magazine length. So it appears all I can do Is just play around 2.79 - 2.81 to keep it feeding reliably.

I would bet if you asked around it has even won at Camp Perry. I have also tried about all the brands of brass. Right now I am shooting some Lake City LR and getting great results.

H4895 was going to be my second choice if I'm not happy with Varget. Varget supposedly has better temp stability over H4895, but I think the difference is very small. Either one is still better than IMR4064 or RL15. I wanting something that holds a consistent zero whether I'm working with my rifles at the range during the summer or 0 degrees in January.

On another note. I've noticed this barrel requires very little cleaning. I just did a good cleaning here after about the first 200 rounds. I didn't see any copper fouling (I used Hoppes #9 semiauto), maybe just a touch of blue. I had to run quite a few patches down it to get rid of the black. Must have been from the gun powder?

That is one of the great things about the Black Hole barrels. They don't seem to foul ever. As to the powder thing that's the first I've heard that Varget is more stable than 4895. If that is true it is some great stuff.
