I was asked for a comparison of the American 30 and other cartridges on the market.
The American 30 data is from a 20” barrel with the loads being moderate. No case head swipes or cratered primers were noted. Reloading of the cases showed tight primer pockets after several firings. Velocities are reasonable and have been exceeded in several other loadings, but as the goal was to develop a safe commercially usable load, they have been held down from what we considered maximum.
I perused the Midway and Wilson site and pulled published numbers for various factory rounds. I have no idea what barrel length was used in most of the data. Obviously many of these numbers can be bested by hand loading but a baseline has to be set somewhere. Not all weight bullets were available in all chamberings and velocities from manufacturer to manufacture varied somewhat.
I have not run drop tables on these various rounds but a few minutes with a calculating program should yield you results. I have found Midway to be a quick way to find BC’s on most bullets for calculation if you want to run your own numbers.

The above velocities were shot in a Black Hole polygonal rifled barrel. Attempting to reach these in a standard rifled barrel may result in differences and caution is to be exercised.
