it took 7 long months to complete but it's finally built! Nothing went as planned or expected and I didn't really get to "build" much at all on this as I had hoped to in the beginning. It started with a deal I could not pass up, A complete Black Rain Billet lower with magpul furniture. which meant no LPK and nothing to put together there. Then I stumbled upon the Crosshill Technologies XSR-15 Side charging Billet upper with NiB BCG & bolt, Again nothing to assemble ( no charging handle, dust cover, forward assist...) Then the 18" Mid BHW barrel, gas block & tube, and keymod free float hand guard, Finally I get to do something! I installed the tube in the gas block ( 1st & only roll pin install), torqued the barrel on, installed gas tube & block, and finished with the hand guard. out of desperation to find a scope before last weekend, I found a cheap NCstar scope off Armslist and bought it, Got to the range today and finally got to shoot some targets and see just how good this BHW Barrel is! WOW, this thing shoots great. Already have a short list of upgrades to do, but that will come after I get a better scope

Now hat is a good looking rig. I'm glad it shot up to the level I felt you would see.
Post targets. We LOVE targets.

Looks Great! I really like the side charging upper. Was thinking of getting one for my 264 lbc build. I like targets too Lerms

Thanks I didn't even think to grab my targets before leaving the range the other day, but will be going back next week, and I will be sure to bring them home with me, or at least take pics before leaving. I should have left scope alone, but I just got a bore sighter and ended up chasing the dot around until I am sure I will have to re- zero out my scope now. Now that it's finished I can upgrade a couple of things ( after I figure out which scope to get ) first off will be a BTE adjustable gas block, then the pistol grip, & then a better trigger. Gonna pull mine out later today and polish it, to see if that helps a little? But think I did good for my 1st. attempt. ( fear of cheap parts is a good thing) and Already looking forward to the next build as I think I now have the dreaded black rifle disease, can't stop at just one build. I hoped the BHW Barrel would make me a better shot than I am, but didn't expect such tight groupings on my 1st. time out. granted it was only 100 feet, But I was not prepared for range shooting, don't have any sand bags and the best I could do was resting the mag on the bench and had the headrest from my truckseat under the hand guard. not very stable. Until now I've never needed to go to a range, I have a shooting spot behind the house for my 1911, but not enough room for an AR. (yet) thinking of putting a gong target on the hill side across the small valley behind the house, will probably have to cut a few trees down and make a shooting lane on my side of the hill. Now I need to go to Lerms post and see if he replied to which bipod he has on his AR.? didn't plan on getting one til I saw his, then went to the range and a guy had one on his AR and it seemed really handy for bench shooting. This forum has been a huge help, and Someday I will know enough to help others. it's been two days since I shot it and I still have the perma grin from seeing how good it shoots. I'm telling everyone to get a BHW Barrel ! don't need to outshoot them, I'll hand it to them and let them shoot it so they can see for themselves it's not me, it's the BHW Barrel !

The Harris will give you all you need in a bipod. I only have eight of them but I do swap them around now and again...LOL

Nice build you have there. Watch out, them black rifles multiply. I have three of the Crosshill Technologies XSR-15 right hand side charging uppers. Two with the NiB BCG and one Nitride BCG. All three are mated with BHW barrels. Two 18" mid-lengths in 6X45mm and American 30. One 20" rifle length in 6X45mm. The BTE adjustable micro gas block is a great upgrade for an 18" mid-length barrel. I have them on both of my 18" mid-length barrels and highly recommend them. Enjoy your new rifle and thanks for sharing.

3 days before I bought a upper is when I came across side chargers for the 1st. time and really liked them, was a little scared to get one, but decided to give it a try. Glad I did, this works great!. Would love to outshoot some of the Wilson Combats around here and bring their ego's down a little I'm 40 minutes away from Wilson Combat and an hour away from Black Rain Ordnance. I thought Black Rain got their barrels from Black Hole but after calling cdnn sports about a black rain barrel, I was told it was not polygonal rifling. ( don't think the guy knew what I was talking about ) So I thanked him for looking and hung up. And thanks Greg for the Harris bipod info, I will check those out. today I brought my parents old 410 shotgun home to clean the bore, and got a little carried away. I have now sanded all the blueing off the barrel and re-blued it, and then sanded all the stain off the wood and getting ready to re-stain it. still haven't cleaned the bore. wish I would have cleaned the bore and took it back, more work than I wanted to do. they're gonna think I got them a new gun!

Let's see, BHW barrel, Crosshill Technologies upper/BCG, match that with a RRA or Geissele trigger and some halfway decent optics. Those Wilson Combats will be swearing like drunken sailors. Again, Enjoy your new rifle.

Congrats on the rifle, what caliber is it? It really doesn't matter all black rifles are fun to shoot, if I had the cash I'd have a closet full. I have a 6.8 and working on a 308 can't get enough. Nice rifle and posts up so targets.

Yeah a new trigger is 2nd. on my list after the optics. Still trying to sort through all the trigger stuff, have no Idea if I should do a 2 stage or a single stage trigger or the drop in style versus the "normal" looking trigger setup. Seems Like alot of people like the RRA's, and everyone's fond of the Geissele and or Timney triggers. This many choices makes it hard to figure out. Oh, and to Flatwoods hunter, it's a 5.56 . almost did a 6.8, but thought I should learn with the 556 first. Plus this gives me a good reason ( excuse) to start a 6.8 upper next, and that Like everyone else's, will probably get it's own lower further down the line, and the start of the BRD ( Black Rifle Disease) with numerous outbreaks in the future. A Neighbor shot mine and it's the 1st. AR he has shot and I think He wants one now, I told him I would build it for him if he wants one. and he probably will. A year ago he bought a 1911 after shooting mine and I have successfully turned a Glock owner into an X-Glock owner ( Love doing that ) and now he went and got a Kimber and we both shoot better with it, dang it! I liked my Para USA until I shot his Kimber. But he just sent it to Magna Porting and won't get it back for another week or so. And my first barrel Blueing was a success! finished the shotgun this morning. Dad came over this afternoon and saw it and then asked me if I bought a new gun? He was shocked when he learned it was his shotgun, (he didn't know I took it yesterday) he said it looks brand new. I should have said happy fathers day and not have to buy him another bass pro gift card this year

Glad you were able to get the shotgun refinished for your Father. Well done Sir. I took out a new lower today with a RRA Varmint trigger, 3.5-4 pound pull. My other lowers have Geissele SSA triggers, 4.5-5 pound pull. Needless to say I'm ordering a another RRA. The Geissele's are more polished. But with me behind the trigger, the end results are almost identical. And with the RRA only $79.00 as opposed to $200.00 for the Geissele. That makes a big difference.
Thanks for the posts, Glenn

My first build: 18" BHW Lantac BCG Nikon P223 3x9-40BDC600 Aero Precision Hand Guard Mil -Spec trigger I sighted in at 50 yds. First 2 shots were dead center hole over hole. My 3rd shot was 1/8" to the right. This was also my first time to shot an AR. Ready for 100 yds and 700yds.

WOW, this thing shoots great. Already have a short list of upgrades to do, but that will come after I get a better scope View AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentSo my first venture into building a custom AR was a long awaited project, I wanted a custom long range capable reliable and tac driving accuracy and that would be durable and reliable and hold up to a lot of shooting over many years, I had finally broken down and started the build after lots and lots of research and decided to go with a side charge upper from American Spirit Arms which came with solid hardened chrome bolt carrier for $550.00 and then a Seekins Precision Custom Ambi lower receiver and then the Black Hole 16” carbine barrel and I would build the rifle around these three pieces, after $2500.00 and lots of UPS and FedEx shipments I had all the parts, the extra tools were another $150.00 for tools I didn’t have already, I was very careful and meticulous when building this rifle and it was easier then I had thought, I took all precautions and had the rifle inspected and verified by a reputable gunsmith and experienced AR builder, he gave it the thumbs up and expressed his admiration for the bulders work (I didn’t tell him I was the builder, just that I had bought it and wanted it gone through to make sure it was a decent and safe rifle) so after the ACOG arrived and I used my SiteLite laser bore sight to bore sight the scope I took it to the range, and the first group of three was a respectable 1” or less at 100 meters so I strabilized the rifle and adjusted the bipod and cheeked up and squeezed off three more rounds and adjusted the windage and elevation on the scope, after two more groups we were hitting bullseye so we moved to a fresh target and set out to see what my new AR would do, the first group was down to about 1/4” group so I moved to another free target (I had a group of five targets set up, and the second set was also about 1/4” and actually looked more like one hole with three hard to see lobes, so I put in a fresh magazine of ammo and put 30 rounds through one ragged hole that was maybe 3/4” to 1” inch or so big, there were two stray rounds so it was actually 28 rounds through one hole, so I am happy to say this barrel and the rifle performed very well at 100 yards, in the spring I plan on taking it out and seeing what it’ll do out past 600 meters? I just need a more high powered scope for that, I want to test it to 1000 meters if I can find a range that has 1000 meter straight line of sight to shoot at, but again I’ll need a lot more magnification then my ACOG offers.. anyway I hope you love the build, below is a build list used for this AR, I’ll try and remember everything I used on it if I can American Spirit Arms 223/5.56 Side Charge Upper Seekins Precision Custom .223/5.56 Ambi SP223 Lower PC-Armament Drop in fire control group with 2.5 pound trigger Black Hole Polygonal 16” Barrel Trijicon TA-11H/G 3.5x35 ACOG Green illuminated horseshoe dot reticle with 1000 meter BDC Surefire M962 Weapon Light System Magpul MS-1/2/3/4 sling setup Low pro aluminum Gas Block Midwest 10” free float rails with end cap Black Nitromet Gas Tube Stainless Punisher Break WMD NiBX Bolt, Firing Pin and Stainless Cam Pin with KNS perma Pin Firing Pin retainer SOG Foregrip PWS Fluted Buffer Tube with QD sling mount Spikes T2H2 heavy buffer TUBB flatware Buffer spring VLTOR E-Mod enhances Modstock Phase 5 Tactical extended bolt release KNS non rotating pins KNS custom pivot and takedown pins Short throw Ambi selector set Troy 45 degree offset flip up battle sights Magpul rail covers Magpul pistol grip with grip sleeve Beamshot green laser sight Extended mag release Engraved ejection port cover That’s the build around my Black Hole Weaponry Barrel and I absolutely love this rifle with this barrel
