Ok sorry for the Questions as I am wanting to make sure before I commit but is there a serious purpose to having a barrel fluted or not?? I understand keeping the weapon cool and having a way for the heat to be disipated and have cooling holes I added to my Boyds Stock. Any and all comments appreciated. BTW I am looking to get a bull barrel and those suggestions will definately be appreciated Dennis

BTW I am looking to get a bull barrel and those suggestions will definately be appreciated Dennis Other than dropping the weight and a very slight increase in cooling, depending on the version of flutes, you don't gain a great deal. I've got some I had done just because I wanted the look and others because of the weight. My 458 SOCOM and 556 KTB with the integral brakes are fluted normally. They make them ultra light but they are kind of skinny AR barrels to start with. . On a bolt gun I have not fluted one yet from BHW but I will as a show piece down the road. BHW does a better job at fluting than many though if you do get it done. Most companies run a cutter into the barrel like a hog looking for an acorn in mud. BHW takes many more lighter cuts. This leaves/causes less stress to the tube and you should get less "walk" as the barrel heats up. Your call on it but I am on the side line playing voyeur on this one. Greg

Thanks for being honest and being on the side lines is ok at times but you did answer my question and it will save me some money esp on a bull barrel and the more i explore on this forum the more I am convinced to buy my barrel from BHW. There is a lot of satisfied folks and when I do this will post a before and after pics and also found a muzzle brake that I am fixing to get Great place!!!!!!

I'm only on the sidelines awaiting groups. I'll be in the thick of things if a question comes up. (VBG)
