Hi,
Does BHW suggest a particular DPMS bolt or manufacturer to be used with barrels chambered in 308B?
I recently purchased my first BHW barrel chambered in 308B and hoped to use with an Aero Precision AR-308 bolt/carrier. It appears to have a headspacing problem with the Aero bolt. Specifically, the bolt will close on a round with enough force of a closing bolt or the forward assist however, extracting the round takes significant force to unlock the bolt. It's quite possible my assumption the Aero M5 bolt was a true DPMS-spec is incorrect.
I am not an experienced gunsmith by any means but have throw together a few ARs as a hobbyist. Haven't tried headspacing gauges or real cases.
Thanks,
Dresdie

Hi Greg,
Appreciate the quick response. Thought there might be a quick lesson learned from the community on this particular barrel+bcg pairing.
Haven't tested factory ammo yet. Currently only tested with snap caps; 2 different types (A-zoom and Tipton 308). Both exhibit the same problem. So, this may still be a non-issue as I haven't tested any live rounds or casings. I'll be sure to post back results of Aero BCG with the BHW barrel once fired.

LOL Snap caps cannot be used to check a chamber Get some real ammunition in there and you will see you are good to go. If you had been using reloads the shoulder would have not been moved back enough. Chambers are cut for factory ammunition and if you try to use rounds not loaded to SAAMI spec then you do run the risk of malfunction. Th e308 chamber you have is a match cut and will be a bit tighter than the throw a cat in there H&R!! LOL Welcome to the board and enjoy yourself. Post up the rifle pics and results when done. Greg

GL, Thanks for your expert assistance. Finally got around to some pictures. Here they are below. After finally giving this rifle a soak, I've had no issues whatsoever with headspacing (from what my amateur gun-smithing eye can tell). So far, 60 rounds of the Hornady SST 150gr copper plated for break-in and ~150 rounds of ZQ1 7.62x51 (the Turkish stuff) both work great. For other future reference, this setup is a BHW 308B 20" barrel, JP JPEB-308 bolt and Aero Precision bolt carrier. While I haven't used any other DPMS or Armalight 308 AR's for reference, I can say I've had a good experience thus far. Admittedly, I have been experiencing some light primer strikes but I have a strong suspicion this is related to bolt slamming or spacing between the BCG and buffer - a work in progress. Thanks again, Dresdie

That is pone good looking rifle. Are the light strikes on the ZQI ammunition? In all honesty that is not the, shall we say, a good yardstick. I know I've heard quite a few QC comments on it over the past few years and accuracy can be adequate or abysmal.
Keep us posted as you go through and get better acquainted with it.
