I have a quick question for you hat I am sure that has been talked to death at one point or another. I am going to do an ultra light weight non5.56 build, mostly for deer stalking, Do y'all have any input on going with a 6.8 in 14.5" for shots under 200M? My other option is 6.5 Grendel since I already have a bolt gun in that caliber and would like to keep the oddball rounds I have to stock to a minimum. Any input in appreciated.

Also what fluting option would give me the greatest weight reduction since neither of those options come in a pencil weight?

Howdy. I have been hunting WI whitetail for 5 years with the 6.8 and think it's the perfect round for my area. I even have a bang flop at over 300 yards with a 16" barrel 6.8. I like the bullet selection and the 6.8 tends to like the shorter barrels from a powder burn/efficiency perspective. Lots of animals out there dead from a 6.5 but for an AR, the 6.8 rules the roost IMHO.
I'd go 14.5-16" 6.8 mid gas shot peened black threaded.

Virtually indistinguishable at 200 meters. If I loaded for the 6.5 already that would be my choice.

i emailed them a while back when i was thinking of an ultralight build. they said tou could get pencil profile for the 6.8. i was just thinking about a 16 inch barrel. if my memory is correct i thought they might have said right aroun 1.4 lbs. i decided against it but am getting every thing ready for 6.8 bolt gun just for deer hunting. im thinking something close to a model 7. just light enough i can introduce my nieces and nefews to hunting with a very mild kicking round.
