Looking for a muzzle device to tip my 6x45. I've got a first generation Smith Vortex(5.56, not 7.62) in my parts box...as well as a standard bird cage. The bird cage would work no doubt...but, hey, it's a custom build, right?
I can drop the shank of a 17/64" through the Vortex from the thread end...although it stops at the mouth(exit hole). Perhaps a bur or ridge from cutting/milling. Haven't determined yet. It will pass a .243 SMK. Should I have heartburn with this? Is .022 over too tight for consideration? Should I have a smithy run it out? Or should I just get a thread protector and call it good for now?
Best, CP

That calculates to 0.265 if my math is right. That is plenty of room. In fact it is ideal in most cases. Clean up the exit a bit and you will be fine.

If my memory isn't failing me, the exit hole on my 6.5mm (.264) suppressor measured at .316 That's a difference of just barely over .05 and it's a lot further away from the muzzle.
I didn't think Smith Vortex ever had a tight exit hole, though? I've only ever seen them completely wide open at the muzzle end.
