18" midlength 6.8 SPC II upper.

Got in my new 6.8 SPC barrel last month.
I switch out this barrel on the upper I had the American 30 barrel on.
Just wanted to do a straight 6.8 SPC for now. 
Rebuilding the upper went without a hitch.
Been out twice with her so far.
Here's how she looks.



I purchased some Federal XM68GD and Hornady Match 110 gr. BTHP ammunition to try out and used the Federal 6.8 SPC pulled brass and 90 gr. Gold Dot projectiles to try some reloads.
The first time out I forgot to bring the Hornady ammo with me.
Shot the Federal ammo and reloads to break her in.

Had no issues the first time out. Used ASC 6.5 Grendel magazine.

Put together some reloads using Hornady .270 110 gr. HP bullets I found at my local fun shop.
Tried them out last weekend.


This is with 25.0 gr of H4198.

As usual, I always seem make flyers with bullet #3 or #4. 

This time around I had an issue with jams using the XM68GD and some NOS ASC 6.8 magazines I got at a LGS.
Switched back to the Grendel magazines and had no further issues.
The ASC magazines are older, no ASC stamp on the base plate. And this was the first time I tried them out.
I have some ASC 6.8 magazines with the stamp on the base plate I used with the American 30 without any issue. Need to see if it is the older magazines or something with my rifle.

Had an issue with the first barrel I received.
JP contacted me within 24 hours of my Email and got the ball rolling.
And Lisa was a real jewel taking care of shipping and getting the barrel replaced.

I reincarnated my BHW 6.8 SPC barreled upper.
Took the barrel off its upper to use with another barrel. 
Crosshill Technologies went out of business and I only had three of their uppers.
Picked up a Bear Creek Arsenal stripped right hand side charging upper and was able to get a new old stock LAR NIB stripped side charging bolt carrier with staked gas key.
Had most of the parts on hand except a midlength gas tube. Trip to my local gun shop and I was ready to assemble another upper.


Looks almost exactly like the old one.

Got her sighted in and adjusted the gas block today.
Did that at 50 yards with Federal XM68GD ammo.

Moved to 100 yards and shot reloads.
Using the new Starline 6.8 SPC brass, Federal 90 gr. Gold Dot pulls and different powder/primer combos.


New Starline brass loaded ready to go.


Norma 200 powder with CCI BR-4 primers.


Accurate 2200 powder with CCI #41 primers.

Glad I got this barrel back on an upper and shooting.
Had a good day at the range.
