Hello all, I am working on a .308 target build with a 24" BHW standard profile barrel. I was planning on scope only, using a smooth rail, but I thought it might be useful to add a railed gas block so I could add sights later. I'm leaning towards the Battle Tested Equipment Rail Height adjustable gas block. My question is that since the smooth gas block journal is roughly 7/8" long on this barrel and from the pics on the BTE website the gas block looks to be longer than that, is this a problem since the gas block would be clamping onto two different surfaces (smooth and shot peened)? I have taken a quick measurement of both surfaces and they seem to be the same at 0.749". My guess is that if the ports are aligned that I would be OK. Just wanted to draw from experience if I could. I could go with a hand-guard that has a picatinny on it but I kind of like the smooth look. Would it be better to go with the shorter Micro Adjustable?
I hope this has not been discussed to death already. I searched, but did not find a thread that asked this question.
Thanks, TD

It hasn't been discussed but there is no issue with the clamping at all. I have a couple of them in use now.
