This range report has been a while coming...so many things going on. For those of us that get rain...it seems I never stopped mowing this season. In fact, I've renamed this month "Mow-vember"!
This past Sunday was as PERFECT as it gets for shooting here in windy Kansas. I got busy loading for up-coming hunts and through in 15rds for the 6x45 to start the break in process. When I got to the 6X45, it was 1 shot and clean first 10. Then I slow fired the last five waiting 2 minutes or maybe more as I hopped over to the other bench in between for my .260 Rem.
The loaded I chose was a fairly general starting point...or so I think...24gr H335, 85gr SMK, once fired and resized .223 Rem brass(mostly PMC pickups), CCI SRP, 2.260 C.O.L. Most important on my mind was safety and function check.
Out of the gate, the bolt locked back on a single round loaded from the 5rnd ACS mag. I felt no need to adjust the BTE adjustable gas block...post inspection. Nothing "strange" with the BCG, muzzle device, trigger group or anything else. Should be GTG, as all was fitting was good in the Seekins upper/lower set and torques as spec'd.
After the first group of 5, I was already tickled with the group it printed on the old turkey target I reused. So, I run the next 10 out to 2.290 C.O.L. as that was still within tolerance according to my measure.
I put up a fresh target and shot for 25M AQT on makeshift bench employing a 55 gal drum and sandbags. Below is the result. At this point I started adjustments on the scope, marks 1 thru 4. Number 5 was on vertical and I set in my last 5 as twilight was looming.
I note I haven't messed with elevation as I need to move the PEPR back a couple notches to improve eye relief and keep from burying my nose too hard on the charging handle.
My intention is to get a hard zero on 50M for max MBPR out to 250M or more. We'll see. Have no idea about what this thing will do at this point and no chrono to check velocity. What fun!!!
