I have a 24" barrel in 243 LBC I am putting into an ar 15. Would a carbine buffer system run the system reliably or will it tend to introduce more possible issues into the equation. The Gun will be used primarily as a target rifle but wanted to run something other than a fixed stock. If needed I could run the vltor A5 system to accomplish this. Was wondering what others were doing and might recommend or may have experience running longer barrels with carbine and rifle buffer systems in ar15 platform

Standard buffer on all mine except my Cobalt Kinetics that comes with its own buffer system.

It doesn't matter. The buffer/spring combination is balanced to run in the appropriate stock regardless of the barrel length. I swap them in and out all the time between collapsible and fixed.

I think most important is an adjustable gas block. Any time I get into more powder, bigger bullets, longer dwell, etc.. than the standard 5.56 then a tunable gas block becomes key.
I’ve run Rifle, A5, and carbine with several weights of buffers. Most times I can’t get pleasing cyclic rates with buffer mods alone on a wildcat.
If carbine or A5 I run a 5+ oz. buffer and dial gas. I much prefer rifle gas and rifle buffer, but rifle gas and carbine buffer works pretty well also with a heavy buffer.
