I have read what I believe have been all the threads on gas ports and cannot find the answer to my question. What is the gas port diameter on a RTS 16" 5.56 1x8 standard barrel with a mid length gas system?
I could just pull the gas block off and measure it, but it was tight going on and I would prefer not to have to try and take it off.
I ask because I am trying to diagnose what I believe is an over gassed system, the brass is ejecting to the 1:00-2:00 position. The gun otherwise runs fine using surplus 55 grain ammo. I have a VLTOR buffer system and have considered getting a heavier buffer to slow the bolt down.
Any thoughts in addition to the gas port diameter are appreciated.

You describe the classic overgas behavior. Most BHW barrels run more to over vs. under opting for reliability across a broad range of ammunition vs problematic operation with some types that tend to be less robust. Remington 6.8 is the classic case there. I would contact CRA/BHW directly for the port size as this has varied somewhat over the years. Greg
