I recently bought a 264 LBC BHW barrel. The gas port catches a cleaning patch pretty good. I havent "felt it," but it does snag the patch. I talked my little brother into an 18" 5.56 BHW barrel and he finds the same thing with his new barrel. Should I give it special treatment? Hand lap it, etc? Thanks in advance.

On a new barrel you will sometimes have a little bur left over from the drill entering into it when the gas-port was drilled. Once you fire your barrel for the first time, you will get rid of that little piece of steel that may still be present. You should notice it is gone when you go to clean it again after that initial firing/breaking in.

I've found this on almost all my barrels no matter who makes them. Just a production issue. The most import thing on new barrels is to clean any metal leftovers from the production process.

Thanks. I cleaned it with Kroil to get out the production gunk, that's how I found it. I didn't think it was a big problem, I just wanted to confirm it. ;D
