I have been an avid shooter for years, but I have only used factory ammo...until now. I am getting lots of hands on experience at the reloading bench and wanted to know your opinion on this vs. hand primers. Any one?

I use it. I also use a progressive for volume. Might need some tuning but when you are all set it works great. In single loading for precision I grab the arm mid way so I can feel the primer tension. very good overall. In the end you have to like the press and 'talk' to the press and brass with all your senses, being the tip of your fingers on of the most valuable inputs besides visual inspection of everything you are doing.

If you are looking for speed, then the progressives are the way to go. But I reload at a slower pace with my old RCBS Rock Crusher and I like to hand prime with my Lee Auto Prime where I can feel whether the primer is seating right, or if another one of those small primer pocket brass pieces has slipped in to my .45 Auto brass again.

If you are referring to the swing out primer rig like on an RCBS I used them for quite a while and was happy. I then switched to progressives and was happy. I do hand prime some of my very low volume match/accuracy stuff. I cannot tell if it makes that much difference but I believe it may help some.
I'm not a brass whisperer but I do talk to myself as I shoot groups.

There is a very fine line between hobby and insanity and I am afraid some of us already crossed it. Don't raise your voice too much otherwise they might take you away with the straight jacket. lol!!

I use a Lee Ram Prime in my reloading setup. I am not a bulk reloader by any means but I feel the Lee Ram Prime has a great feel and has resulted in perfectly primed cases every time I use it. i have it set up in a Lee Hand Press which allows me to prime cases just about anywhere. I was initially concerned with crushing primers but the primer punch will seat primers consistently just below flush with the case head. I am very happy with mine and would recomend it to anyone.
