Just built an ar with a middy 18 in 1 in 8 twist Black Hole barrel. Very nice looking barrel, great black finish stainless and this thing will hit a fly at 100 yds. BUT it seems to be very sensative to bullet type. Sighted it in with Fiocchi fmj 55 gr ammo and it shot very well. Switched to 55 gr Hornady spire points and point of aim changed A LOT. At 100 yds it moved 10 in over and 4 in down. Readjusted my scope and groups were all sub MOA, but what a change of point of aim! Anyone else with the same results??

55gr Fmj are known to be interesting out of 8 and 9 twist barrels. Switching to a bthp or differing base bullet in the 22 cal is interesting.
I say leave the FMJ stuff alone and just get fine tuned to what you plan to use it for.
Unless that means shooting targets with a Fmj bullet and then switch back to what you had.

That is pretty extreme but in the world of barrels it is what is is. Harmonics of the load come in to play thanks to pressure, bullet shape and powder types. I'd pick one and go with it. Greg

Anyone else with the same results?? that is crazy how far off it would be, my guess is that possibly the 55 SP's had a flat base (no boat tail that is present on most quality FMJ's) and that's what threw it off so bad, because I usually sight my rifles in with 55gr fmj and I've never had zero change as bad as that.

My BHW 16" middy is sub-moa and on a par with my White Oak 18" rifle gas SPR.
